When should my child get their first orthodontic exam?

At around age 8 a child should get a first orthodontic exam. If it is determined your child has a dental problem that needs interceptive work, phase I orthodontic treatment is recommended. If the dental problem is not severe and is only mild, and if it could wait, orthodontic treatment is postponed until ages 10 to 12, depending on the eruption of permanent teeth.
